Jeep Trailhawk Concept!
Here it is!
I love the overall design cues, which, I agree, may be the next gen Grand Cherokee (I hope, I hope...). I don't care much for the WK, but this looks pretty cool, especially with a nice lift, some meats and rocker protection on it! That front end is very agressive-looking. In it's proper afore-mentioned form (lift, tires, rock rails), it's the first design I've seen that I would consider worthy of replacing my WJ. :jammin: Here are the entire pics: http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/12/28/jeep-trailhawk-concept/

Is this suppost to be a jet plane or an off road vehicle? I really don't care for the design. It's lines look appropriate for a vehicle designed for speed, something like a recent era "muscle car", but with bulkier and fatter proportions and big wheels and tires. The rear fender flares look ugly as sin. They don't appeal to me at all. To each his own, though!

I think the design is pretty interesting. If it were to come out it would no doubt see a higher roofline and less glass perhaps. It may be no big deal to the wrangler guys, but a good solid axle offroader that mimics an suv over the traditional wrangler form is a nice alternative, unlike the wk, which is just an onroad perpetuation of the grand cherokee design.

Hmmm...
Here's what I think the potential for the Trailhawk is (sorry for the small pic):
FYI, I just read in Motor Trend where the Trailhawk concept has 4.5" more ground clearance than the WK and the same approach and departure angles as the JK Unlimited. ![]()

More info
Here's a good write-up on Edmunds:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=119004 I still think this is the basis for the next-gen Grand Cherokee styling...

It looks more like a street rodder to me, than a rock crawler. It does look mean and aggressive, but I don't like the low roof line. Too claustraphobic for me.

Official Detroit Debut
Here are some great pics from Autospies.com of the Trailhawk in Detroit:
http://shows.autospies.com/gallery/2007-Detroit-Auto-Show-50/page63/# I like these "Hot Wheels/Jeepster Concept" tires better than the ones in the promo pics...

It's a CONCEPT!!!
Quote:
Obviously the roofline will change. It's supposed to spur thoughts of the Range Rover Sport, while pushing styling to outrageous new levels. I don't like the lower gap between the mid-level hump and rockers either. It's too busy-looking, but will probably be toned-down for any kind of production. As far as ground clearance, do I need to stress the meaning of concept, AGAIN?! Aside from the appearance of being more of a street racer, you have to look at the potential. How many jeeps currently have great ground clearance? The JK Rubicon and JK Unlimited Rubicon are the only ones that have respectable clearance. The WK is lower than even the non-Up-Country WJ, the Liberty is okay, but needs a lift for any real off-roading, and the Commander is a joke with trail-rated badges. As with any Jeep meant for the trails, imagine the Trailhawk with a lift and big meats, as with my posted alterations.

Jeep Pisses Me Off
I love jeep and what they used to be but more and more I hate the way they change the vehicles.... The 2 biggest things I hate about them?
-- Since the WJ's it seems that the grands are getting smaller. I'm sorry but if I wanted a small SUV with little to NO cargo space I would by a Wrangler or a lame Rav4. I want the mid to big size SUV... NOt something as big as an Expedition or Excursion. Even the new Explorers have more space than the previous models. -- The other thing that drives me crazy is they seem to be getting less and less off road capable from the factory. (Excluding Rubicon anything). I'm sorry but I like Jeeps original vision that every vehicle had good ground clearance and very capable. Ok, rant over.
