Read the article and tell me what you think. If enough of us like it then we should tell Chrysler.
Don't pay attention to the pictures on the link.

Brilliant idea! Ive always loved the idea of a 3/4 ton shortbed...best thing for an extreme duty truck that would see a lot of use off road or in hellish conditions and thats just the hot ticket for someone trying to build an offroad monster.

You can already get a Ram 2500 or 3500 exactly like that, save for the short bed. And that's still about $50,000 to start, with nothing but a Cummins, 6-speed manual and vinyl bench seat.

It's a 3/4 ton regular cab short bed. No one makes one at the moment. We're talking about a truck that is perfect for wheeling and lasts for 350,000 miles with little maintenance like all Jeeps used to.

Moot point. That article came about from what Bob Sheaves thought should be done to keep using the Sterling version of the HD Ram after Sterling bit the dust. He thought the Sterling with a different look would make a good Jeep pickup.
Since the Sterling production line is gone there will be no full size Jeep pickup.

You can do it with the current Power Wagon. They had a concept a few years back that was a regular cab short bed. It was a step side if I remember correctly. Granted I would not want a step side but it basically is what he was talking about in the article.

That'd be the Power Wagon concept from Moab a year or so back:
The standard Power Wagon starts at about $45,000 for the ST model. A short-bed version would be even more because of the cost of engineering another frame length and designing a shorter bed. And you can't get a Power Wagon diesel because the winch and additional cooling doesn't meet clearance requirements on the Cummins.
Even if they work all those out, you willing to pay $50,000+ for that truck, minus the 37" tires and such? The Power Wagon is already a slim seller as is.

I almost sold my Jeep and Ram last year for a Power Wagon. I'm in a Jeep club and need a Jeep to stay in it. Otherwise it being labeled a Ram would be fine. I love the Power Wagons and feel the only problem with them is the break over angle. If they came out with this truck, I could sell my Ram and Jeep and buy this and a Charger and be quite content.

A friend of my Dad just bought a government surplus '08 Power Wagon-it's not a rock crawler, but it'll smash its way over damn near anything else. I'm hoping to buy a new Power Wagon ST in a year or so.

They should build it off of the Dakota platform, with Jeep styling and an improved engine

Dakota platform is dead, and it never met Jeep mobility requirements to begin with.

They are talking about a new Ram 50 sized pickup and a "lifestyle" pickup which might be the new Dakota. This Honcho project would have to be based off of a full size pickup.

The Ram 50 might not be sold in North America at all, it's intended for overseas markets.
The Dakota replacement, at last guess, will either be on the Durango/Grand Cherokee or the new E-Evo platform that's underpinning the minivans and full-size cars. It probably won't be BOF.
Jeep isn't getting a full-size pickup. Ever. It'd compete too heavily with Ram's offerings, especially since the Power Wagon is exactly what everybody's asking for in a full-size Jeep truck.
The Jeep pickup that probably will be coming with the 2014/2015 redesign of the Wrangler will probably be a slightly stretched version of the Unlimited with a small back seat and a pickup bed.
