J8 roling off the line in Egypt

http://www.trucktrend.com/features/news/2008/163_news081114_first_jeep_j8_military_vehical_roll _off_the_line/index.html

How will this help/hurt the brand? Will this lead to my JT stateside? If they can have one, why can't we?

It's a very sweet vehicle, no doubt. However, if you take into account the down turn of the truck market in the US, I highly doubt this vehicle would sell enough to justify the shipping, emissions testing, crash testing and marketing costs....

Don't get me wrong! I love this truck! But I wouldn't buy one unless it was my 2nd or 3rd vehicle in my garage. I have a feeling Chrysler, or any other brand in America, only wants to build DD's today. Too much money is at stake in this recession.

There was an article in Perterson's 4wheel a few months ago pertaining to the military version. It has a diesel, 2 door and rear D60 with spring under suspension. 4wd.com is selling the rear D60 as is, but it is a c-clip axle.

The January 2009 issue of JP shows off the J8. I doubt it will ever be sold here in the States, but if it ever did go on sale, I'd seriously consider selling my TJ for it!

The diesel in the J8 does not meet emissions standards of the United States, but you could probably own one if you didn't live in the US, like lets say Europe. Who have more diesels per capita than us but the emissions standards are more relaxed go figure. Oh this applies to all states not just the really emission crazy states like Kalifornistan.

Supposedly this guy got one shipped stateside. However, if you read the article he had the suspension changed to coils. So basically he built an Unlimited... with a diesel and axle he could have purchased from Mopar.. I wonder how much he paid for the Jeep, Shipping, and having the suspension modified.. more or less than modifying an Unlimited?

That's interesting. I bet it would have been less expensive to buy a wrecked LJ, stretch it a bit, do AEV highline, etc.
