Future Jeep Rumourmill (Updated as of July 28, 2012)

To make life a little easier, I'm consolidating all the solid and incorrect information about the future Jeep lineup.

If you've got any information, let me know or post in the thread. Most information is collected from Allpar.

Red = Information confirmed false
Green = Information confirmed true
Yellow = Information speculated

B-Segment Jeep (Mini-Jeep)

The Mini-Jeep was originally speculated to be a reskinned version of the Fiat Panda Cross, an AWD, higher-riding version of the Fiat Panda. However, that version was cancelled.

The new version will likely be based of the new Fiat SCSS Platform, a compact car/SUV platform.

It is speculated to be a small convertible, styled as a mini-Wrangler. It will likely be roundly similar to the Mini Beachcomber concept

Engines will probably be a variety of small Fiat gas and diesel engines, with a possible turbocharged version.

No release date has been confirmed, but its expected to show up for MY2014. It also may or may not be sold in North America as well.


The B-Segment Jeep will NOT be related in any way to the Fiat Panda. The rendered Jeep Phoenix concept was purely speculation, and is false.

Compass and Patriot (Current Model)

The Compass and Patriot will be ditching the CVT for 2014, likely their final model year in present form, in favour of a modified version of Magna's Dynamax AWD system, currently seen in the Kia Sportage. However, it will be modified to include a low-range option to replace the Freedom Drive II in Trail-Rated versions. Expect this system to carry over into the next-gen version, an an option alongside the 9-speed and manual models.

C-Segment Jeep (Compass/Patriot Replacement)

The Compass and Patriot will be replaced by a single vehicle. It will be based on the new Chrysler/Fiat C-Wide platform that debuts with the Dodge Dart.

The name is unknown, but its speculated that the vehicle will retain the Patriot name and rough styling, since the next-gen Jeep Liberty will be restyled more along the lines of the current Compass and Grand Cherokee.

Engines will likely be a variety of 4-cylinder gas and diesel engines.


D-Segment Jeep (Liberty Replacement)

It will be based on the C-Wide platform. Platform mules using modified Alfa Romeo bodies, now with Jeep grilles, have been spotted. Final model will look nothing like the spyshots, but people who have seen drawings and prototypes of the body state that it will be restyled more along the lines of the Grand Cherokee and Compass.

The new Liberty will be more upscale than the present one-its essentially replacing the existing Compass as a mini version of the Grand Cherokee.

Engines will be a number of 4-cylinder engines, with the new 3.2L version of the Pentastar as the largest choice. A turbocharged version of that engine will be available, it is not known if a NA version will be or not. Turbocharged versions of the 4-cylinder engines will also be available.

The 9-speed transmission will be available, its not know if anything else will be offered.


The Liberty name will likely remain, however its speculated that it will be renamed Cherokee in North America. It is unknown if it will keep the Cherokee name overseas, like the current Liberty.

The Liberty replacement is scheduled to show up for MY2014.


Wrangler

The Wrangler will be redesigned by MY2016. The exact date isn't known yet, but the next-gen version is under development. Significant changes externally aren't planned, most of the changes will be to increase fuel economy and make the platform more versatile, to increase production capacity at its Toledo assembly plant and allow for variations on the platform (See Gladiator and Speculated Future Models sections for more information).

Expect a refresh along the lines of the change from the CJ-7 to the YJ.


A VM Motori diesel is all-but confirmed as an option for the next-gen Wrangler. It will likely be the same 3.0L confirmed for the Grand Cherokee and speculated for the Ram 1500.

A large 4-cylinder gas engine, potentially the new 2.4L Tigershark I4, may return as a base engine option, but likely only for SWB models. A small V8 is speculated, but no solid information on it is available.

A full-time transfer case is being considered as an option.

The option for a 'stripped' interior with simpler interior panels, seats and bedliner in place of carpet is also being considered. Bedliner was previously considered an an option for MY2011, but the additional tooling and processes were deemed too expensive to add to the already-maxed production line.


The Wrangler will not be moving to any independent suspension configurations.

Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee will receive a mid-cycle refresh for MY2014. The 8-speed transmission will be an option for all engines.

The 3.0L VM Motori diesel V6 is confirmed as an option starting MY2013. Price and fuel economy projections haven't been released yet.


Grand Wagoneer

The Grand Wagoneer will be based on a stretched version of the Grand Cherokee platform. However, it will not be a reskinned Dodge Durango.

Release is speculated to be around MY2015, but its existence at all isn't confirmed. If it is built, it will be a luxury halo vehicle for both Jeep and Chrysler in general-prices will start around the price of a loaded Grand Cherokee and go up from there.

5/25/2012: The Grand Wagoneer is expected to replace the Durango upon release. Prices are still expected to remain the same-it's been confirmed that the Grand Wagoneer will start at around the same price as a well-equipped Grand Cherokee Overland-but, unlike the Durango, it will be sold worldwide.

Speculated Future Models

Gladiator

The Gladiator has all-but been confirmed by Chrysler and Jeep management. However, if it is developed, it will arrive with the Wrangler's platform refresh. Expect a model along the lines of the 2005 Jeep Gladiator Concept. However, it may be restyled to resemble the early SJ Gladiator front clips, as shown in the 2010 Jeep NuKizer Concept and the 2012 Jeep J12 Concept

When it does appear, it will be based on a stretched version of the Wrangler Unlimited frame. Engine choices will be the same as Wrangler, suspension likely to be roundly the same (It may have rear leaf springs, but a stronger coil rear, as seen in the Ram 1500, is more likely)

The Gladiator name is not confirmed, but its been referred to as such in most mentions, and is the most likely choice.

It's also speculated that, instead of being a separate model, the Gladiator-or a Jeep truck of some sort-will be a de-militrized version of the next-generation J8, similar to the 2008 Jeep J7 'Sarge' Concept

Steel-Roof Wrangler Version ('new Cherokee'), Iveco Massif and Jeep J8

When Fiat and Chrysler partnered in 2009, one of the first directives from new CEO Sergio Marcichonne was that more vehicles based off the Wrangler would be developed. Since then, a shortage of both production capacity at the Toledo Assembly Complex and engineering staff, working on more crucial vehicles, have put these projects on the backburner.

However, it's been said that Jeep may be tapped as a source to build a replacement of the now-defunct Iveco Massif. If so, a metal-roofed version would likely be developed and possibly sold as a 'truer' replacement for the Jeep Cherokee XJ, although it would more closely resemble the earlier, BOF, Cherokee SJ.

The Massif was developed originally as a military vehicle, although sold more to industrial customers. In that vein, development of the next-generation Jeep J8 may be rolled into the same development process.

No-not because of a lack of market, but because small forward-control vehicles are basically impossible to build for North America, and Iveco already builds one for Europe, the Iveco Daily 4x4:

I'm just curious...how accurate do you think the information on the new Compass/Patriot replacement is? Or may I ask where you got that information from? Cause those of us on other forums would love to hear the good news that the Patriot name could be staying around for a little longer! Great little thread, good idea!

Was at Chrysler College today about new models and other stuff. Cant say to much but the replacement for the Liberty will a cross between the Dart and the Compass. Dart like interior. And new drivetrain. New electrical weird things (3 pronged fuses, essentially two fuses in one to save space). All I can say right now. I go back on Wednesday to talk about more. /maybe new info.

Personally, I am against the Jeep-Fiat merge, but that is just me. I think Jeep shouldve remained with Chrysler. Then again, I havent actually been hands-on with a Jeep that had a Fiat influence on it.

...Jeep IS with Chrysler. Fiat is the majority shareholder of the whole Chrysler group.

And, technically speaking, Fiat will be merging with Chrysler-they're planned to merge into one company in 2015 or so, headquartered in Detroit.

I don't mind the crosstrek actually.. But I just like jeeps better. So, it's just a taller dodge dart?

No. Not even slightly.

Think a 2/3rd scale Grand Cherokee with the world's first real low-range FWD/AWD drivetrain, and more ground clearance and better articulation than the current Liberty, and you'll have a better idea.
