Future Diesels?

Hey all, new member here first Jeep and diesel owner as well. I have a 2016 GC WK2 Limited with EcoDiesel engine...love it so far.

Does anyone know if Jeep is releasing more diesels for the US market? Especially after the Volkswagen fiasco.

Thanks!

I wish they will bring the diesel to US Wrangler market!!! A diesel would be great in a Wrangler, more low end torque and better fuel efficiency. And diesels are much cleaner and quieter these days!

Definitely agree with that. If they can put it in the grand Cherokee and had them in libertys too I just cannot understand why it wouldn't be an option for the wrangler.

The Jk needed to be changed enough to fit it and the transmission. The next Jl will, from everything i have seen.

The 2.8 CRD that is currently in export JKs is already in use in the USA in the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon twins, and the 2.0 CRD in export Cherokees and Renegades was used in the last generation Chevrolet Cruze. There's no excuse for not selling those models here, at least from an emissions perspective. Hopefully the JL has the 3.0 from the Grand Cherokee, at least.

I can understand that they would think those motors won't sell like hot cakes but Christ on a stick why not keep it an option and be able to pump some out stateside as needed.

Remember that the new diesels are not the simple engines of days gone. I have a 2014 Ram diesel and the smog devices are quite involved and really add to the cost. If part of it fails, it can put it in limp mode till you see the dealer.

I'm a Jeeper without a Jeep or a winch.
Going to work on changing that.

Aren't there ways to delete the smog stuff? I'm Wisconsin we don't ever need smog equipment tested.

You could never get the computers to like or accept the removal of equipment and sensors.
The computers use data from the emission systems to adjust and maintain proper operation of the engine.
It's not like cutting off the catalytic convertor that was downstream of the O2 sensors 30 years ago.

1st one- 1989 Cherokee Laredo. 12 great years
2nd one- 2001 Cherokee Limited. Got it before they were gone.

You couldn't get sensors that send perfect emission codes to the computer so it thinks it's running great when really you've deleted The whole works?

of course you can't just rip out the smog equipment,........untill you buy a tuner for the computer. sometimes it really does help the MPG and keeps some maintenance cost from popping up at higher miles. it all just cost some money though.

its done every day. on most models though the stock parts stay in hooked up but are just shut down instead.
