Diesel possibly in the works!

Yesterday i stopped at the local dealership to get my oil changed ($13, can't pass that up). And I was talking to the owner b/c his wife was one of my teachers in High School and his daughter was a year younger than me. Anyway, we got to talking and he said that the chrysler is working on a 2.5L diesel engine for the wrangler. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Yup. So far I have heard this. I is for a right hand drive and they are going to be sold to police and military worldwide. And if I can I'm gonna get my hands on one!

When I was talking to the owner he said that he had just been to Vegas and they were displaying a diesel that they were developing for the U.S. to put in the wrangler

I've heard the diesel engine doesn't pass emissions, so we can't get them here in the U.S. But the Army is ordering a bunch of these, I think its designation is the J8.

I have a buddy down at JTE, supposedly they are looking at 2010 for a diesel.

I'm holding out for the diesel. I just bought my fiance the 08 4dr. It good enough for her (she doesn't need to power). But I will need the low end and higher gears(ie. rubicon). I have the straight six in my 03 and I can't give up the lower end torque just for power windows and locks.

I over heard that local police had heard that there was a diesel special on some horizon for hopefully our city = 3rd thrid party.

But really, here in BC most community professionals would look kinda stupid driving Chevy cruiser's, if you take the meaning. Disel 350 Rams are sort of average, so one with falshers is no surprise. I confess noticing our CRD when they're looking, and since all the city diesels burn bio, well no surprise if the Blue go that way too! I hope JEEP gets back to the Bio Diesel and stays there. We love ours. What with all the fluff about rising gas prices. We're doing bio at 70 mpg on a 2.7 CRD with V8 torque. Would you complain? My wife's a really, really good shopper.

Wranglers new diesel will likely come from Fiat, you may want to check this site out.www.fptpowertrain.com .. FTP base in Carol Stream IL ,make 2.8 million engines and 2.1 million transmissions with sales of 8 billions a year, one of there sofim diesel motors are use in a small US military test vehicle , thats around the size of a Jeep (rumor).FPT is owned by Fiat and was call Iveco motors before the name change to FPT.
Note: the sofim 2.3 diesel torque 270@1800 rpm is the engine under test now by military, the 3.0 diesel Torque #280 @1250 rpm,the
3.0 is supercharged with intercooler, turbocharger with variable or fixed geometry with waste gate common rail injection with total electronic control, also capability of 2nd life engine overhauling, meets euro 3-ce 97/68 phase 2-epa tier 2

wt of 2.3 210 kg. 3.0 wt is 240 kg
operation noise 2.3= 93 db. 3.0 =93db

Was already here. It died when the KJ Liberty did. Grand Cherokee does have the Mercedes 3.0 diesel but it really is meant more for cars. Not what I would want in a Jeep. Early XJ Cherokee's had a 2.5 diesel option. Not much power from it though.
