The G-wagon. Basically Europe's Hummer, it is a civilian variant of the German military vehicle (used by many other European Nations as well). Nice SUV but too bad they cost $100,000+.

It is probably a diesel, and wouldn't it be great if Jeep offered them here.

You'd think Fiat would have a few diesels to spare lying around

They've got plenty. And we're getting this awesome one.

Grand Cherokee in the spring. Ram 1500 in the fall. Minivans and LX cars sometime in 2014. Wrangler likely in 2016, just because they can't afford to change it before then.

And by the way, if you look through the gap in the bonnet you can see it if you squint...... Thanks, wifey. Nice panel work.
Quote for repairs? $33,000 Aus Dollars. You guys don't even pay that much for the whole car prolly.

My problem with Jeep is quite simple. The Wrangler has a bullet proof reputation but unless you really use it for offroading, it's not a good everyday driver. It's also expensive. The Grand Cherokee is a beautiful vehicle as well, both capable and pretty luxurious and also expensive. Where are the decent inbetweeners like the old XJ once was? Both the Liberty, Compass, and Patriots are notoriously underpowered, cheap interiors, and because of this, are being scrapped in favor of a new Liberty or Cherokee in 2014. Bottom line? When will Jeep create a quality built, well powered and capable offroad vehicle that doesn't suck ala the old XJ? I'd buy a wrangler but ill never use it as it is intended to be used...I'd buy a GC but its out of my price range and bit too luxurious for me. What will Jeep do to win over the inbetweeners ?

I've been waiting for about 2.5 years for the answer to this question. I'm at the point where I can't wait any longer and will have to settle for less than ideal. Most likely will end up with a KJ or KK Liberty since this is the closest thing to the XJ. Unfortunately the Liberty is getting scrapped also. We may find the answer in the future, but it may be a very long time since the market seems to be trending away from what we want right now.

Jeep had an entire segment of the market almost to themselves and have thrown it away. The XJ, ZJ and WJ offered metal roofs and capability close to that of the Wrangler.
The rest of the industry gave up chasing Jeep because they couldn't compete. They instead offered soft roaders which sold well but lacked capability.
Now Jeep has decided to chase after the soft roaders and give up on the market it had to itself. Kind of ironic.

1st one- 1989 Cherokee Laredo. 12 great years
2nd one- 2001 Cherokee Limited. Got it before they were gone.
