43.5mpg diesel Patriot

Quote:
...the Compass Rallye and Patriot are both based on the Dodge Caliber hatchback platform, and both Jeeps will offer a 2.4-litre petrol and a VW-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine.

"The vast majority of our vehicles sold in the last few years have been diesel powered and it is vital for the success of these new Jeeps that we have a small diesel engine that is competitive in the family hatchback segment. The 2.0-litre diesel will enable Jeep drivers to achieve a combined fuel cycle figure of 43.5mpg for the first time."...

@$^#$&^$^@$^ NO FAIR, why can't WE get a Diesel one here?

(wringing hands and hoping maybe they'll consider it in 08 or 09 for US).

my understanding, which may well be wrong, is that there is new regs coming out or going in to effect at the end of '07.

Seems like most manufs. are holding back for that '08 production line.

I feel there will be a flood of new US bound diesels starting then.... I just don't want to have to wait another year....

I do believe that's correct, the new regs come into affect for 08.

But who knows on the flood.

I'm hoping, but traditionally diesels haven't done well here.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

On allpar.com someone did the conversion from British Imperial gallons to US gallons and the 43.5 mpg works out to 36.2 mpg for us in the United States.

thats still amazing, its probably because diesel engines stuggle so much less for most of the same work, just speed is all they lack

With the new emissions for 2007 with the ultra low sulfer diesel, vw is not selling a diesel vehicle in the US, the TDi lineup is dropped from the engine choices on all US cars in '07, it should return in 2008 when they can make them pass emmissions, so if they are indeed using a vw sourced engine we would probably see it no earlier than 2009.

That would be sweet... I would convert my fleet to 2/3 Diesel, with the TJ being the holdout.

The MPG gain is great in the KJ...
