Word is around September, right? That's what I had read in other parts of the forum, at least...

Local dealer told me (today) that they'd be ordering it in roughly 4 months; so that September timeframe seems about right.

I hope I'm wrong and we see it earlier...

The 2012 Wrangler will be coming a little earlier than usual. Look for them to begin arriving in August-ish, possibly a little earlier depending on the retooling at Toledo.

HA! If we are waiting on the people of Toledo to retool, it may be well into 2013 before we see the 2012s. lol

Has anyone seen any pics of what the redesigned sheetmetal is supposed to look like? I can't understand why they would refresh the body on a five year old design when the TJ and the YJ both went for 9-10 years unchanged.

IF they redesign it, it would be due to the new engine shape. That's my understanding.

I don't think the changes will be too drastic, with the announcement of the "truck" kit there would be no sense selling a body refresher for a vehicle undergoing major alterations

so far i've asked chrysler marketing direct - no answer. no surprise there

i've also asked different people at two dealerships and have only been told that chrysler is being very tight lipped about the release. they said since Fiat took ownership this 'policy' is tighter than in the past. all i've gotten from them is confirmation on the pentastar replacing the current engine, which is terrific. they said the interior is unchanged, no surprise since it was just done. no confirmation on exterior body change though.

Sorry if I missed this being discussed somewhere, but with all the changes, will the 2012 get a new model designation? Or will it still be a JK?

Body panels from the fenders back will be unchanged, and from the front forwards will be very mild. They're pretty much just re-organizing everything to fit the Pentastar and the 5-speed automatic.

This is just going to be a mild refresh, like the '03-'06 TJs vs the '97-'02 TJs.

Link?
Now if a transfer case similar to the 242 was offered it would be great. Full time 4x4 high for pavement which is great for rain or patchy ice plus part time high and low 4x4.

There's been rumour that the NP242 that was in the Grand Cherokee for a while may be an option, but it's looking pretty unlikely.

This isn't some Subaru AWD system, this is a Jeep-grade AWD transfer case that still maintains part-time high and low ranges-but with it, SWB Jeeps won't be complete deathtraps on ice.

just give me the Pentastar and the selec trac and i will be happy. last thing they need to do now is to launch the new engine and then muck it up with some crazy change to the transfer case/gearing, etc.

dear Jeep,

please apply the KISS principle, nothing else, nothing more

thank you
