i offer a moment of silence for the real jeeps that have past.

these new street jeeps are a joke.

but a company must do what it must do to " SELL SELL SELL " and keep themselves in buisiness. shame for the offroaders . wk / I F S ? FTMFL.

I'm afraid the new Grand, with all of the off-road goodies, in stock form, would out-wheel any one of these stock Jeeps. You did read all of the specs, right? 4.5" of lift, down-hill assist, etc... I mean, come on! This is going to be one tough Jeep. I'm not keen on 4WIS either, but if you read my post about the manufacturer of the axles, you may feel better about it. Here's the scoop on the ZF Axles:

if you ask me it looks way too "fru fru" to be a jeep. It looks more like it belongs beside an BMW X5 and a Mersades ML 500 than next to a Wrangler or an XJ. I know the Grand cherokee has always been the luxury vehicle of the Jeep family but i think that this is just too much. Corce i am one to talk with my fully loaded 04 Wj overland.

1. As a WJ owner the new WL/WD aka 2011 GC is the first grand I wanted to buy since my 99limited as one poster stated it seems like a more stream line design of the WJ and looks noting like the uglier WKs.

2. I want one assuming mpg are not horrendous I get one to park next to my compass. and my Willys

I totally agree. As far as fuel economy, it's still not where it should be, in this day and age, and falls behind President Obama's new CAFE standards for the near future, but they're an improvement even over the WK. Here are the specs:

Powertrain

All-new Powertrain Choices in 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Offer More Fuel Savings, Refinement and Capability

3.6L V6 Pentastar (280 hp)

The new 3.6-liter V-6 engine, part of Chrysler’s $3.6 billion powertrain offensive, is introduced for the first time in the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The more fuel efficient V-6 engine features 11 percent improved fuel economy, 33 percent improved horsepower, 11 percent improved torque. Environmental-friendly design: lead-free engine, recyclable oil filter element with no-spill removable feature.

“The all-new Pentastar is the most advanced six-cylinder engine Chrysler has ever offered,” said Bob Lee, Vice President—Powertrain Product Team. “This new family of engines uses an architecture conceived with future technology growth and integration in mind.” The all-new 3.6-liter V-6 engine is an all-new design featuring double-overhead camshafts (DOHC) and a high-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder block in a 60-degree configuration.

“Our all-new engine delivers better performance and the capability Jeep customers demand.” “Similar to what we did with the HEMI® engine, our engineers used the best combination of design features and technologies to create an engine that satisfies customer requirements,” Lee added. “The elegantly simple design maximizes the functionality of each design element rather than adding technology to claim a feature. The result gives our customers everything they demand from an engine today—class-leading levels of refinement, fuel-efficiency, performance and cost of ownership.”

The all-new 3.6-liter V-6 engine will deliver 280 horsepower (209 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. (353 N•m) of torque at 4,800 rpm, an increase of 33 percent in horsepower and 11 percent in torque over its predecessor, while providing customers up to an 11 percent improvement in fuel economy.

The 3.6-liter V-6 engine design features a double-overhead cam (DOHC) and high-flow intake and exhaust ports, which in combination with VVT via dual independent cam phasing, allows optimum volumetric and combustion efficiency over the full speed and load range. This results in an exceptional, flat torque curve along with high specific power. The engine’s torque exceeds 90 percent of its peak value from 1,600 to 6,400 rpm, which provides customers with outstanding drivability and responsiveness.

Refinement was a key objective for every component during the design phase of the engine and was achieved by utilizing advanced computer-aided engineering techniques. Structural, intake and exhaust areas of the engine are designed to deliver low levels of overall noise and achieve specific sound quality goals that meet discerning customer requirements. The result is a refined engine in all applications. Idle quality refinement is improved due to use of the dual independent cam phasing.

An environmental-friendly oil filter system with optional integrated oil cooler is used to help protect the environment via incineration of the filter element. The use of long-life spark plugs and a high-energy coil-on-plug ignition system also helps reduce cost of ownership.

The new state-of-the-art Trenton (Mich.) Engine South Plant will be the lead facility for production of the Pentastar V-6 engine. A duplicate, new facility in Saltillo, Mexico, will ramp up for the 2012 model year.

5.7-liter HEMI® Engine (360 hp)

The all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is also available with the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine. It delivers 360 horsepower (268 kW) and 390 lb.-ft. of torque (520 N•m) @ 4,250 rpm and also features VVT, which delivers performance and towing capability, as well as fuel efficiency with the Multi-displacement System (MDS).

“Our HEMI engine maintains the key architecture that makes HEMI a household name in powertrains, including Variable-Valve Timing,” said Jansen. “The HEMI continues to offer fuel economy and refinement, and maximizes performance and capability.”

The HEMI engine’s fuel-saving MDS seamlessly alternates between smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power is in demand. This optimizes fuel economy when V-8 power is not required, without sacrificing vehicle performance or capability.

The HEMI’s VVT improves fuel economy in two ways. First, it reduces the engine’s pumping work by closing the intake valve later. Second, it increases the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more work to be transferred to the crankshaft instead of being rejected out of the exhaust port as heat. VVT improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power.

The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee offers unsurpassed trailer tow capability of up to 7,400 lbs. on 4x2 models when coupled with the HEMI V-8.

So, while the V6 has similar power ratings to my 4.7 V8, it gets a bit better fuel economy. However the significantly more powerful Hemi gets about the same EPA as mine. A bit of a quandary, if you ask me. I'm not sure why, with the new 200C Electric, Dodge/Tesla Circuit EV and the Wrangler EV concept and the deal with the ENVI electric program, we don't see at least a hybrid version of the new Grand. With all of the turmoil over Chrysler "rebuilding," you'd think this would be a focus moving forward. These are great-looking cars, that will be significant platforms crucial to the future of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, which will aid in weening us off of foreign oil. You'd think they'd want the new Grand to be a part of that historical trend. I mean, these are sharp cars that are ELECTRIC! Usually those 2 things don't go together. Just look at them!

This baby's got the looks, I just wish she had the soul of what the future needs...

I like the new look and really like it with the raised lift. However I don't like the back.

I wonder how big a tire it can handle with still being allowed to use all travel of the air suspension?

Also as engines go I like the v6. Finally a worthy v6 in a heavy jeep. But the hemi disappoints. I have a 05 5.7. Even 6 years later with some advancements if you want to call it that and with a finally more aerodynamic design. The hemi is still getting the same mpg averages

For crying out loud we need a damn diesel. Cummins at that. The govt needs to realize the benefits of biodiesel and stop hating. Or even a electric hybrid.

Either these companies are getting there pockets loaded by big oil or are retarded. If the ladder by 2016 all of us jeep owners are screwed cause no way will we have a 30mpg jeep wrangler or grand.

Can anyone post weights of the current wk to this model with the hemi?

I couldn't agree more. I'll work on the weight numbers, but I did just read something positive in a few magazines, including JP and Four Wheeler, that there WILL be a hybrid version by the 2012 model year. Too late, if you ask me. They should have it for the new model launch, in my opinion. However, I know how these things work, and with Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep in dire straits, it's truer than ever that they need to sell a volume of units before they offer more expensive options like a hybrid. Personally, I think that's a bunch of bs, especially with issues we currently face with gas prices and the rising EPA requirements. I think they should kill production on the Compass and Patriot and invest more in an eco-friendly Grand. I think they'd have more buyers in the long-run, as GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan or any competitor that I know of, doesn't have a competing platform with a hybrid version. GM will be dropping the Trailblazer/Envoy and the H3 will be turned over to China, the new Explorer looks really ugly, from what I've seen in spy shots, and I don't know of any plans for hybrid versions of that or of the 4Runner, Pilot or Pathfinder, so between the new Grand and the next-gen Durango (with 3rd row seat option), Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep is poised to become a leader in the mid-sized SUV segment. But, they seem to be dropping the ball on the fuel economy front, once again.

IMO, the new GC looks HOTT... But I'd still rather have a '07-Up Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon w/ a hard top instead.

When the JK Unlimited Rubicon has the new Pentastar V6, then it will be a tough decision. Until then, I'm leaning toward the new Grand, if it looks like my version above. The current 6 is not enough grunt for my taste, especially without the benefit of better fuel mileage than a V8.
