Was driving home from work and got behind a Dodge Journey that was brand new and looking at the rear of the vehicle it looked like the photos of the new jeep grand cherokee??? Saw it from the side and it looked that way too.

Anyone else notice this?

No. But now that you point it out, they do look similar. In reality, the Grand will be bigger, so the illusion should end with photos.

Wow! There's really big similarity between these two rides. But I think Cherokee has smoother curves, and I like it more than the Journey.

true but they still be using the same platform would need to see the int to really tell.

No, they do not share the same platform. This is a new platform, based on the Mercedes ML platform, NOT AT ALL RELATED. The all-new Durango, however, will be sharing this platform. The Journey is a smaller vehicle. Check out all the picks you could want at my thread for the 2011 Grand:

They do have some similar characteristics. Just goes to show you that the Jeep Grand Cherokee name will sell almost anything. The new Grand is stylish though and the guts under the skin won't even be close to the Journey. The Journey is just a pacifica. Isn't the new Grand going to be a unibody platform? WL right?

Yes, it will be unibody design. The Grand has always been Uniframe, from ZJ to WK, not body-on-frame, so unibody won't be that much of a jump. What is significant is the involvement with Mercedes to create the all-new platform, using the ML as a basis, but building it over 43% stiffer/stronger. As far as WL, that was the working designation from some Jeep insiders before it was introduced in New York/Moab, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

In today's market, especially, it takes more than a name or pretty face to move cars. It takes quality and solid design. I think this new Grand will take Chrysler/Jeep to a whole other level. It is a technological trend-setter, loaded up like a Mercedes or Land Rover, but for less. And with new chief customer officer, Douglas Betts (he's been there since '07, but considered new relative to products he's over-seen), being more of a quality watchdog than previously, I think we'll see strong attention to product build and content like we haven't seen in decades.
