zj tie rod swap

I am in need of an alignment but before i do that I have heard that I can get a v8 ZJ tie rod and its bigger and also a direct swap. on a 97 xj sport.

Does anyone know info about this?

Or if anyone knows of a write up how to remove/replace a tie rod.

Do a search on the forum for this. I did it and it worked great. There are several write-ups with part numbers if you search or Google it. I picked up my parts at Napa and the upgrade is worthwhile.

the search isnt very friendly with me today..

I cant even find how to REMOVE the tie rod.

I simply want to remove it and replace it with a zj tie rod and then get an alignment..

Yes, it works. Just did the swap over the weekend.

I used parts from a 1996 Grand Cherokee with the V8. Get the right inner TRE, adjusting sleeve, and left outer TRE. Got the three parts from Autozone for under $70.

The stock piece is easy to remove, just take a look at it. Its only two TRE and its free.

pulled one out of the junkyard for $20 for the TJ, and I'm buying the parts for the XJ. Much stronger than the stock tie rod.

I ended up removing a stock xj tie rod, and sleeving it with a piece of tubing, and welding it to the tie rod.
