some ZJs have a D44 with an aluminum center-section that will not receive some lockers. I'm not sure why, personally. I've heard of someone putting a D35 in place of an alum D44 for strength reasons. More info would be nice.
Quick test: see if a magnet will stick to the diff (not cover of course), & compare the shape to your D35 or D44. The parts may bolt up if both are D44s Interesting...Procede |

The info is out there, but yes, it will work. I took ZJ D44a discs and put them on my C8.25 axle, they will work fine on a D35 too.

ok, my XJ is 2wd (no laughing please) I am using what i can from my ZJ and my 67' ford bronco to make my XJ off-road worthy.
I wasn't sure if i can use the whole axle assembly off the ZJ or if i had to do all the mods i read about in the FAQ.

ZJ rear discs from a D35 will bolt up to an XJ with a D35 or 8.25. The 8.25 will require some dremmeling of the center section on the backing and mounting plates. I did it and it was worth it.
