any year below 2000 have the hp 30 not exactly sure when the change was made from disconect to non. i have a 99 and i kno that it has the 297x ujoints which are the stronger set so im guessing 96 and up have them again not 100% sure on exact year. forget the selectable locker unless u wana spend that much money, assuie lockers are simple and cheap and very good product with great street manners. i have the rough country diff skid and its held up to some pretty hard beatings, almost all aftermarket covers are similar in strength mine has served me well for a long time.

Thanks for the info.
I want a selectable locker because this is my DD and I have the 249 transfer case which is all time 4 wheel drive. |

00-01 had LP30's, other than that they are all HP30's You won't find 4.56 gears on an xj, almost all of them will be 3.55 (autos) or 3.07 (manual) Chromo shafts are like any other axle, yukon, moser, etc. Selectable lockers are awesome, if you can save up to afford it, do it. If not go with an aussie, i have heard nothing bad about them. For a truss, look at Treks, i'm using their truss on my 44 and they have flawless products. U-joints you want the later model shafts and you will get the larger u-joints. Covers are all the same, you will never break an aftermarket cover. |

swap out the 249 ASAP, you can get away with it on the street, but for a wheeling rig i would be looking for a 231 or 242 pretty soon

4.88s have always been available for the hp D30, you can even get 5.13 for the lp D30 although the pinion teeth are tiny I would assume, I wouldn't run them. good luck

The older XJ's with a 242 also were non disco axles. And some of the older 2.5 auto xj's came with 4.56's allegedly. Most 2.5's with a 5-speed have 4.10's, as did the 2.8 v6's.

Is a 94 XJ axle non disco? I found this for sale for $500. HP D30, 4.88’s, Alloy USA Chromos, Aussie Locker, Rock Ring, Currie LCA mount skids, sway bar mounts are cut off, 60” WMS, Drag link and tie rod that is sleeved. It's out of a 94 XJ. If it is non disco, what is the advantage/disadvantage of this?

That's a good buy for 500! If it's a '94 it will be non disco. That's what ya want.
