Ditch the 2.8v6 and get a 4.0 straight 6. Not sure if it will bolt right up to your tranny but the 4.0 will last you forever

The only difference might be in the bell housing but not like you can't go to the junk yard and get the proper bell housing. Go to pullapart.com and find your city and you can find a 4.0 for under 200 bucks and get everything you need for well under a thousand

An 86 WILL NOT fit a 4.0. The firewall is too far forward. Didnt you have another thread yesterday where i suggested the GM 3.4?

Will not bolt up and will not fit. Lots of mods needed.

Here's my 2 cents... I agree with cruiser 54 and get lifted. There was a 2.8 liter Cherokee in my local you pull it and the firewall was a good 4-6 inches forward it looked like. Just take their advice and dont even try to stuff a 4.0 in there. Good luck buddy!

A 4.0 won't fit in a pre-4.0 Cherokoee ... there are firewall differences.

When did they ditch the GM engines for the 4.0? If it was before that ... no.

Excuse me, but what was wrong with THIS post that you made last week in this very same forum?

I need help deciding what to drop in in place of the 2.8L, i am still in school so money is definetly a factor.. I have around $1000.00 to spend on the swap what is my best choice for power torque and easy install. Thank you very much for your help.

Unless the Jeep is in brand new shape I would look for another Cherokee with the 4.0. They are cheap. Like, $1,000 cheap. Otherwise, get a NEW replacement engine.
