Once you amp your door speakers you will never go back to head unit power. Even a cheap small amp will be an improvement over any head unit amp. The most power you can get out of a head unit is around 18 watts rms, alpine does have a power pack option that provides 45 watts rms. Just with my 6.5s in the doors it can shake your pants with them being powered by an amp and crossed over at 30 hz.

I put pair of PWX 6.5 in my doors with Boston Acoustic tweeters and crossovers an a Infinity Perfect 6.5 component set in the rear sound bar W/111w rms x4 and a PWX 10, in the cubby hole, with 300+ rms going to it. Each amp is turned up to less than half gain and it more than enough to hurt your ears, like I get a headache if I really crank it, ~/.4+ volume. The best thing about the PWX stuff is it is marine certified and fairly inexpensive, I had to put spacers and cut the door panels but it was well worth it the sound is insane.

All I can say is WOW!!! This set up is LOUD!

Even with all I've done to the system, I still have the stock paper coned Jensens in the front doors as a decoy.

Hey guys, I'm having an issue in my XJ. The speakers I have are Pioneer 5.25" pieces of crap, so that may be the issue in itself. Along with them (running on HU power), I have a Type R 10" sub getting 900 W in a sealed box. My issue is that I don't have any midbass in the front of my XJ, but the rear passenger seat and hatch are filled with midbass. Is this just the acoustics of the vehicle, or do I need new speakers, or what? I was thinking maybe a speaker wired out of phase, but I have yet to check that. I can hear all of them together so I'm not sure that's it. Any help would be much appreciated.

I keep my fader to the rear: -4/7 on my deck. Alpine. I hate that screaming high pitch in my face.

Btw Teeeejay, as much as those R's kick ***, when you replace it, use a Kicker L7. Way more efficient. More volume. Deeper base. I ran R10's for 10 years. I kick myself for not trading up sooner.

Does that add any mid bass? I keep mine a bit faded to the rear but it does nothing. I think I just need new 6.5"s and an amp

I have the 5 1/4's in the doors. Alpine S 5 1/4's in the roof bar, and this has two 10" L7's. Two RF bd1000's (almost 2500 watts.

I've been meaning to ask, are you using the square or round L7?

All L7's are square. Notice the L and the 7 make a square. But yes, 10' L7 has the surface area of a 12" round. It's a step up I'll never regret.

I thought I saw a round one once... Guess not. Haha. I'm looking at possibly a sundown.
