i have a random question for this thread...how do you add additional speakers? do you just splice them into other speaker wires? i know where there is a soundbar out of a 98 that a was considering picking up for cheap and putting in over the rear seat with some extra speakers...Worth it? thanks

If you splice them in, you will be increasing the load on your amp, and unless it is a good one and designed for 1/2/4 OHM loads, it will fry it. If you are running only off of deck power, it will or could fry your head unit. I suggest investing in another small 2 channel amp, like a 50x2 MTX or something, and run the additional speakers off of that. Sound-bar might not be a bad call. I am running 2 components int he front doors and a set of 2 ways int he rear stock locations (sound-bar) in my 2000. The rears sound great!! I stuffed the cavities with some sound deadening insulation before I installed them too....sounded far superior, less buzz.

thanks for the reply Gman VIMB...im glad i asked because i would have fried something...i do have a 250 watt sony explode amp i picked up back in highschool thats just laying around now..it had like the high output speaker hookups..i cant remember what they are actually called..but it had another hookup seperate to those that you would wire your sub to..i have a dual 600 watt amp right now that was givin to me along with an infinity ten inch sub that was also givin to me..i have to look and see if that amp has the same speaker hookups the sony does...i might just upgrade the four stock speakers and call it good..its just temping to do a mod that is easy and when you know its at the junkyard for cheap..even if its not nessecary haha..what are the stock speaker sizes? thanks again

You could run them from the deck. But you will most likely be dissappointed with the sound until you amp them. Aftermarket speakers many times will ound quiter, and have slightly less bass then stock paper speakers when ran off the amp. This is because aftermarket speakers with there heavier cones, and larger voice coil arent quite as efficient. But put a amp to them and they will liven up and blow those stock speakers away.

What's a good way to get speaker wire from the amp to the speakers in the rear soundbar? Also, is it safe to run my 10" sub and 2 6.5" speakers off the same amp?

Same can be said for installing a subwoofer and amp, it depends on what you're starting with. On my own project, I finally found some time to sand down the front of the back piece of my box and glued & clamped it to the support frame (the piece of MDF that will be bolted/screwed (not sure yet) to the interior of the Jeep). Probably cut it out and start working on the face pieces Weds.
