XJ overhead console

I searched already to no avail:

bought a 98 OHC for my 99. I read afterwards that the wiring harnessess are different. I dont even know if its gonna come with the wring harness. it was an ebay special I couldnt refuse. Theres a bunch of people who have done it without the harness. The links that were posted were all too old. does anyone have a link, or a write up?

thanks

Any 1997-2001 XJ Cherokee Overhead Console will work in any 1997-2001 XJ Cherokee. The only difference is the plugs on the wire harness. There are the same number of wires, and the wires almost all have the same color codes, so you could clip the plugs off and connect the wires directly.

I have tested a console from every year, 1997-2001 in my 2000 with the 2000 wire harness.

A 1996 Cherokee needs a console from a 1996 or older Cherokee and the only info displayed is Temp and Compass direction.

If you have a donor Cherokee, pull the factroy wire harness that is attached to the console. You can make your own wire harness, but if you buy or pull your own console be sure and get the wire harness and save yourself time and headaches.

I have a couple consoles for sale complete with wire harness and install instructions, PM me for details.

i saw that. Ill probably skip getting the new wiring harness, and just connect the wires myself. also had a thought last night...can i just buy connectors and attach one to the existing wiring harness, and one to the wires coming off the new OHC? that way I can unplug it easier in the future lol.

Radio Shack sells generic wire connectors. Get one or two new white palstic connectors as needed for the console main wires, clip off the factory wires plugs, and match up the wire colors.

I have a '97 and am very interested in this as well, but I have a sun roof. Is there anyway to just get the display? All I really want is direction and temp can I use an older model?

I have seen a modified OHC for a sunroof Cherokee. The OHC was cut off just past the buttons that control the display.

You could possibly mount the display in another location or a custom box.

just got the console from ups. it looks brand new. cant believe it was only $30. no wiring harness and no mounting brackets, as expected. just a quick question, everyone usually refers to one mounting bracket, but on jeepsareus.com there are two: a front and a rear. should i get both? and anything else while i'm at it??
thanks
