xj no fire from coil or fuel pump

I am purchasing a 89 xj limited from a friend I would like to here it run first it will turn over but will not start. We have tried two different coils and i can not find an ignition fuse. I was told that 89 was a black sheep year for some wiring in the ignitions and it is full of fusable links. I don't want to buy a p.o.s
he bought it and the seller told him he had previously had the trans out and that it ran ok but he never put the driveshafts back in it. I would like some helpful info on some thinks to check out like if theres any one thing that can shut power off to the coil and fuel pump. Thanks

there is a fuel pump ballast resistor on the drivers side inner fender. ceramic piece with two wires to it. if it is bad you wont get fire to the fuel pump. you can jump the wires together to test it. did you actually check if you were getting fire to the plugs or just changed coils?

yes we used a spark plug test light it did not work on either coil so we made sure the test light was good we tried it on one of our personal vehicles and it worked. I will try that so for i know where the fuel pump relay is now this ballast and the crankshaft sensor and the coolant sensor i am going back sat to try these thinks.

Run a scan on the ECM and see if it's thrown any codes for a faulty crank or cam position sensor.

Since you cannot pull codes on any 87-90 XJ, you need to look at either the ballast, fuel pump or CPS.
