XJ floor pan?
I admit it is my fault having missed it - I bought my first jeep yesterday, an 89 XJ that is very good looking on the outside, but when I had the seats out while stripping it apart today (replacing the smoke-infested carpet among other jobs) I discovered a massive hole in the floor pan right above the muffler. I couldn't see it when I looked beneath the truck when I was buying because it was hidden by the exhaust system. This hole is BIG so I'm suprised I missed it. Anyway, further investigation turned up more weak spots and holes. Basically my floor is junk.
My question to you experienced folks is, since an XJ is unibody, am I stuck with this floor? Is it possible to replace the whole pan, or will I have to weld in metal plates or something? Should I just bail on this jeep and find another? Thanks a lot. Matt ![]()

Do a search. This is VERY common as the metal is so thin and the felt pad under the carrpet holds moisture. There's a company that makes replacement floor sections. Their name is Sherman and associates and should be available at replacement panel places. I could not find a direct link using google though

Well since I was the one that found the panels thru www.shermanparts.com and bought the full replacement panels ( Both sides) I guess I should do a right up on them when I get the time.. Both panels went in with minor ajustments to the sheet metal.. If you only need the 1/2 pan I'm sure it will go in just as nice...
Think they where about 70 for the 1/2 pan.. Jim S...

Thanks
Thanks for the help -- that's quite a relief because I love this truck already and would hate to have to go Jeep shopping again! Thanks again!
