xj fender trimming

a couple people told me when you trim the fenders you should make releaf cuts and hammer it over to bend the fenders over i was wondering why cant you just cut it off

IIRC the lip you are talking about is more like a pinch weld, if you were to cut it the body would split..

That's correct for the rear fenders. On the rear if you cut past the spot welds the inner fender well will separate from the outer quarter panel, exposing the inside of your Jeep to the outside world. So, for the rear you've got to do the "cut-n-fold" method.

Make some cuts:


Fold it over:




Finish, mask it off, then paint.




Up front it's not an issue though and you can just cut the fender.
