Even tho there is no emission inspection in Tennessee it is still a federal offense to remove a converter on a vehicle that came with one from the factory.

As far as the muffler....I recommend the Thrush welded (looks like a flowmaster)

Flow master super 40! Deep but not to loud inside! As for the cat I have been busted here in CA for modified emissions! Not good times. The judge took the fine off because it took me so long to find a ref because the budget cuts had em all closed! But definatley not worth the risk

i've heard that you want to keep your cat just to keep back pressure so you keep low end torque.

if you want deep sound....buy a V8...that's about the only advice i can give...

i have a welded thrush welded just after the cat w/ stock piping running to the rear of the xj...it is deeper at idle and up until 3k, after 3k you honestly can barely hear the rumble and at highway speeds you don't hear anything at all...you'd think it was a stock jeep...so i'd def reccomend it...

Leave the catalytic converter on. Illegal to remove and you'll have constant check engine lights with it removed.

You should be able to find a replacement for less than a hundred bucks.

Here is a link that might help.
