That's what I thought too. I'm in the middle of doing this mod and was going to mount my amp back there (behind pass side rear panel). Going in, I thought, "Gas filler...ok I can work around that." Then I popped the panel and BAM...all kinds of stuff. Gas filler, panels, etc. You can't do jack back there haha. So now I'm just going to mount the amp in the cargo area on the floor and build a box, cover it with automotive carpet, and screw her down. I'd like to put it under the rear seat but it's too big

Thanks for this write up man, going to help me a lot.

PS. Check my site maybe tomorrow or within a few days for pics/write up of my install, I'm putting in a 12": http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/813310

try putting your amp under the passenger seat...rip up the carpet and pull out the padding, thatll give you a few inches of space...ive got both of my amps under the front seats with no problems. PM me if you need any advice.

and i didnt like the way that guy did it either, he has all those screws on the outside of the panel
Yours is exceptional too, I just hope I can mount the 12" all the way back like that in my 99.

Just finished mine!

I just finished my kick panel sub enclosure, except for a little bit of cosmetic work (a little carpet work on the panel). I painted the board for now, it looks OK for now.

I had to do a little workaround on the sealing of the front of the enclosure due to having shoulder belts for the back seat. But it was nothing I couldn't handle

I made a template out of cardboard by repeatedly test fitting and trimming until I had a fit that was good enough for me, then I transfered it to the particle board.

I made a similar template for the rear seal, but stupid me didn't take pictures of the two pieces that I made. I couldn't do it in one piece, but by splitting it into upper and lower sections.

Here's the mess with the foam, I still have many samples on my hands

And finally, here's the completed enclosure with a test sub in it, which is a crappy Pyramid 10". It sounded OK until I tried to get any amount of thump, then it turned to mud

BTW - The XJ is now shaking and booming with the help of a Rockford Fosgate Punch P2 that I picked up this morning from Best Buy. It's being powered by a Pyramid PB560 500W amp that is bridged. It's all being fed by a Dual AM/FM CD deck (which also plays MP3s and WMAs).

Yep, I used the black "closed cell" foam tape, which makes for a tighter seal. Two layers. I also made sure to hit every body seam inside the sub eclosure with the expando foam, that's how I got my hands so well.

Now I just have to get rid of all the panel buzzes that I have found with the new sub
