jvracer04:

how much wattage are you running to that 10 you got?

It seems as if I have the exact same sub as you do and I'm thinking about instead of having two just going down to one. I have a dual bandpass box and it sounds great, but I don't want my trunk weighed down, I want to keep the space, and I don't want anybody looking in to see I have a beautiful setup just waiting to be stolen.

That is a prestine job on putting the sub in there and I actually want to do the exact same. Where did you end up putting your amp? What kind of wood is that? Was it hard to cut around the wheel well on that one side of the wood? This looks like a project that I would really like to do once time and money is comfortable, but before I go into anything I wish to be completely prepared. Sorry for the long post.

thanks ahead of time for the answers!

im running a small 600watt amp , and i got it under the rear seat
and i bought a 4'x2' sheet of 3/4"MDF from home depot, it was like $4.99

and for the cutout for the fender, i used a big piece of stirofoam(sp?) and cut it to make a template, then layed it on the piece of MDF and made my cut lines

and yeh i like telling ppl i got a sub and show em

they were like uhhhh where?

and oh yeh... u need to use some thick weather stripping (i used 2-layers of some 1/4" thick stuff) and 3/4"s MDF or the panel, when u put it back on, wont line up flush with the wood... so it wont look right

do a google on "bass reflex enclosure" for a better explanation thn I can give
I would strongly suggest sticking to manufacturers directions. Speakers are all made differently. Some are made for sealed enclosures, some open enclosures (yes, even subs) and some ported. You will get different results using all three.

that looks really good, but i do have one question, doesnt the sub require a certain volume of space to sound good. or just stick it in the hole and call it good

for a 10-12" sub the enclosure size should be about 1cubic foot... which this is almost perfect to

i really couldnt tell you, i mounted the sub on the back of the 3/4" so i lost 1-1/4" compared to normal mounting

but id say ud have about 6-1/2 - 7-1/2inches of mounting depth

sorry to dredge this old post up but I'm wanting to do this. I'm going to have a MTX 8000 series 10". http://www.crutchfield.com/S-6XVY1vw8Qcx/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=67600&id=features_and_specs&i=236t8 104a

it has a bottom mounting depth of 5 11/16". does anyone who has had this panel off think that there will be enough room back there to build a small box mounted to the back of the baffle board (the one that will be carpeted) to enclose the sub. I will actually have 425 watts going to it. I think that might be enough power to flex the fender panel. I have thought about doing it the way you guys have but i think it would probably sound better with an actaul box. just my opinion, but then again i have never heard it either way.

I will soon do this exact project. As of now i have 10 speakers custom built in 4 tweeters, and now comes the sub!! I have to older 10" acoustics which wont pump mutch; so my question is how much power can u put in there from the 10" sub? I ask this cause there are some serious 10"s that have 1000rms watts and 2000 peak!!! Can the quarter pannels handle that much air displacement. Of course this is assuming the woofer fits.

Oh yeah few more questions, will that sub eventually blow out that rear window above it?? Did u dynamite ur quarter up then use the foam?? And since the speaker is resessed, what did u mount it to. If i buy a bigger woofer and then mount it on the outside of the mdf, would that work as well and still not blow off my quarter pannel. Last one, how come no port hole?????
