Looks really good!!!-can I make a suggestion? no? ok ok if you insist--the speaker you are using has a foam surround, which implies a high excursion (it moves alot)-but fully sealing the enclosure makes a "baffel" with limited air volume--this will limit the ability of the woofer to create very low freqs--you might want to try porting your baffle--just put a 2" or 2 1/2" hole with a hole saw--and you will be pleasently surprised with the bass response
do a google on "bass reflex enclosure" for a better explanation thn I can give

u could fit a 12, but your would have to mount it normally, i front mounted mine on the back side of the wood so i could put carpet over it

but u could prolly get a 12 to fit, and im sure u could make another enclosure just like it on the opposite side if u cut out the spare tire mount

thanx everyone... i love it... best interior mod ive done

and it sounds pretty bad *** to me... im not a big bass head like i used to be... so im not that worried about it

Danger Will Robinson, Danger!

Spraying any kind of expanding foam type stuff into a car is asking for rust issues later on.

Don't do it! Especially if you are in the salt belt.

ummm ok?

home depot... lowes ... anywhere

just makes sure its latex base (the blue can)... the latex remains flexible(somewhat) so if u fill ur fender too much it wont buldge out when it dries.... its also much cleaner to work with

Ok I was originally trying to do fiberglass and after a bunch of wasted money it's looking good but the rest will require more money and a lot more time.

Are you just using the sheet metal from teh rear panel as the back of the sub?

yep

all i foamed was the sides (where the tail light is, and where the it goes to the vent in the rear door jam)

other than that its just the wood i made the panel with and the actual fender of the car

I did this mod. last weekend on my 98 classic and I love it. Thanks JVracer04! I only had a few things different. The shoulder belt assembly was inside the panel. I just taped some pieces of foam around it and then sprayed the expanding foam around that. It prevents the expanding foam from getting into the seat belt assembly and still seals it off. A few wires ran from outside the panel to the inside, but I just put the weather stripping right over them and screwed the wood down nice and tight. It sounds just as good as when I had the normal sub box.

I just did the mod too except I used a 12" Alpine Type-S sub. I ran into a few quirks such as the seat belts like stated earlier and my sub was too deep. I basically had to add another layer of MDF around the edges to give me enough room to mount the sub on the front side. Apparently the 12" is a lot deeper than JVracer04's 10". The 12" also barely fits the width too. If it was a little bigger I would've been screwing the sub into sheet metal at opposite corners. The depth causes even more problems than just cutting more MDF. It doesn't allow the interior body panel to fit on properly so it sticks out a little bit. I managed to get it on there decent but it's not perfect.

Expanding foam works good. Get Great Stuff or True Value brands. Don't be like me and try something else. Knowing how nasty that foam is when wet I saw a can that said it was easily cleaned with water and went for it. After 2 days it wasn't dry and the stuff that was dry was softer than my pillow.

I'm pretty happy with the install though. It leaks a tiny bit of air around the seatbelt because I couldn't seal it well enough. At higher volumes a regular box sounds better in my case but it still sounds very good in the other instances. Maybe it's just because I'm pushing more air and it's causing too many things to flex.

Here is the sub picture

Here is the picture of the crack after I trimmed and flexed the panel a little. Not bad but noticable if you're looking.
