"CUBBY HOLE" SUB ENCLOSURE

==========================================

I stared off taking the rear panel off and cutting the "cubby hole" out of the panel with a jig saw..after that i filed it down for nice smooth edges

next i bought some MDF from the local hardware store and cut a piece to fit over area, i then cut out a 9-3/8" diameter whole for the 10" sub, i front mounted the woofer on the back side of the board.

after that i bought some latex expanding foam (the blue can not the red) and i filled the holes in the fender (seat belt hole for later model cherokees and 2 additional holes which hold the panel down) i then placed a piece of card board over the tail light and electrical wires and foamed this area also

next i filled the opposite side with foam to prevent air leaking to the vent that is in the rear door jam... after that double layerd 1-1/2" weather stripping and placed it around the boarder of where the MDF front would mount(as seen in the previous pic and following pic)

i let the foam dry for 8 hours then i did the following step which was to mount the board to the fender(body of the car) to make a sealed enclosure... there was a lip around the the open area which i screw the board to with 2" wood screws

after that i replaced the panel and wha la!

i mounted the sub on the back side of the wood front because i made this a stealth enclosure by covering it with automotive carpet found at any walmart or automotive store

Have fun!

I'm very interested, I've been looking at how to do this for some time now.

How does it sound? Do you get a good volume out of it? Is the sound a good quality? Do you get any rattling from the area? If you were to do it again, would you do any of it differently??

Thanks heaps!

DaveH.

definately looks good!

no, it truly sounds great in my opionion, i used to have 2-12"s that got stolen and this 1-10" gives the same sound pressure and sound i got from my previous set up

u cant hear it from outside of the car really(not sure if thats what ur going for), but inside, it sounds fkn awesome|

nuthing rattles either, i screwed it down pretty tight and the 2-layers of wearther stripping give it a good seal and prevent rattles

i wouldnt do anything differently except keep my nephew away from the can of expanding foam

That's awesome! Sound Quality is exactly what I'm going for, along with being 'low profile'. I don't want people to look at my truck and think about stealin' the sterio. I have a 10" Sony from my Maxima, and have been thinking about how to intall it. Where did you put your amp?

Thanks again!

daveh.

i put the amp under the rear seat, ive heard ppl talk about how thats not good becasuse it cant disipate the heat there, but i have a 600watt amp pushing a 350watt sub (100rms) so it doesnt get hot at all

Perfect! That's what I'm running, a 600Peak, but she's a cheapy, I'm guessing it can put out around 150RMS and same with the Sub. (tops)

I'll be printing off your write up!
