Won't Shift gears!!
Okay so i just inherited a jeep from my brother that has some problems. He changed the clutch about a year ago and put in a remanufactured clutch master cylinder. so my problem is that after my jeep starts to get to operating temp it doesn't shift gears easily. but when its off i can smootly. But when im down shifting into first its like the clucth isnt disengaging I really have to shove the shifter into first HARD .also when i try and go in to reverse it grinds, like the plate is still spinning. . i Heard it could be servos but i have no idea. The jeep is a '93 4L high output cherokee. I want to get this thing running so i can have some fun in the mountains. Has anyone had any experience with this problem? Thanks

Has it been like this since he swapped the clutch? Seen this lots of times and its usually that they didnt put the clutch disc in the right way.

Yeh, if you look at most clutch disc it will say "Flywheel Side" right on it. Hope you get it sorted out

Okay so I talked more with my brother. He said he might have tightened the flywheel too tight, or the throw out bearing is bad. He claims that there is no slave cylinder on his jeep. Could the yhrowout baerinng cause the problem?

Yeah mine does that to. You gotta be going real slow(-5 mph) to shift back into first easy. The varying speeds are just too much for the First gear syncro. Reverse will grind if you go right into it from neutral and un-depressed clutch. Go into First first, then reverse and it should slide in. If throwout bearing was going bad, it'd be grinding and anytime the clutch is depressed.

I've seen now..more then once a cheep "jobber" clutch that ..no sh*t MELTS in the jeep
do NOT use cheep after market clutch in the 95/96 I've had great luck (NOT luk hinthint) with centerforce and act but almost nothing else. |

the 'luk' brand clutches are absolutely great. they are oem for over 60% of cars manufactured, so if you burned one, your fault, not luk's.
as for your brother, no offense but i wouldn't trust his work if he doesn't know how a hydraulic clutch works ("it doesn't have a slave cyl"). my guess is he messed up the slave (you can't re-use them once the tranny has been pulled, so unless it's external or he put in a new one, it's trash) and it needs replacement.
