wj rear disc brakes ona 8.25?

i found a entire rear wj axle, complete from disc to disc with everything for cheap, and i want to do a rear disc swap, does anyone know if wj backingplates/brackets bolt right up like a zj set up does? i would assume they would, correct?

This would be useful information if anyone has the answer, I am on the lookout for a disc set-up myself and have wondered about the WJ rear end too. I assume they use the Dana 35 axle but possibly have slightly larger discs/calipers? Actually thinking about it more I am off to find the specs for disc sizes to compare ZJ/WJ.

EDIT: I have done some quick research and I found the ZJ rear disc is 286mm in diameter and the WJ rear disc measures 305mm so as long as the site I looked on had the correct info the WJ brakes should be a bit more effective if they will fit. Disc will be a bit of a problem though as the lug spacing is different so might have to redrill disc.

dont forget about those brakes fitting into a 15" wheel. you might have issues there.

If the OP could measure the mounting bolts center to center, he could then measure his and find out if the bracket would fit. I do think you might have an issue with a 15" wheel, but I do not know for sure.

the mounting pattern on the wj is 5x5" where the zj (and i believe xj) is 5x4.5"

also i believe the rear brakes on a wj is different sizes based on the axle... i believe the 44a has larger rear brakes then the d35?? i could be wrong about that though.

Not the wheel mounting pattern, the caliper bracket mounting pattern.

The fact still is the bolt patern. The WJ is a 5x5 where as the XJ, TJ, YJ and ZJ are all 5x4.5. So unless you want to run two different sets of wheels, It won't work. Stick with the ZJ brakes and you'll be fine.

On the 8.25, the wheels are mounted to the axle shaft. The axle shaft passes through the hole in the caliper bracket and then into the axle tube, riding on the bearing pressed into the tube. It is held in place with the C-clip. The caliper bracket bolts to the end of the tube, via four bolts that pass through a flange.

Do you think everyone that does the ZJ conversion, that pulls the disc brakes from a ZJ D35 is running the D35 axle shafts? No, we run the correct shaft for our 8.25 axle. The only consideration the OP needs to make is if the brakes will fit in his wheels, if the hole in the center of the bracket is large enough, and if the mount pattern is similiar enough to use for the caliper bracket. The caliper bracket is completely seperate from the wheel's mount surface.
