windshield refitting method
Hello all Im wondering if anyone could tell me of the correct refit method for rebonding in the front screen of a 94 xj ? Does the glue go on the screen and then place screen in the apperture ? or lay the glue around the body/apperture first then lay the screen in ? It looks like the outer moulding goes on the glass first. The last person to fit my screen has glued the moulding to the car & not the glass which cant be right ??? hence the cronic water ingress...

The Cherokee is a uni-body constructed vehicle which means that the front wind screen is part of the overall body structure and it is glued in place with special adhesives when it is installed. Water leakage at the windshield is common symptom of a low quality glass replacement job. Re-setting or replacing the windshield glass is not a Do It Yourself project. There are special procedures and special adhesive products that must be used. A common stopgap solution to a leaky windshield is to apply sealant between the rubber gasket and the window frame.
That said, water leakage is not uncommon and can be caused by the windshield installation, the door seals, and some of the seals at the firewall.

Thanks for the words of warning, I have fitted a few bonded screens before. I will use the proper glues & activators. The screen has definately been sub standardly fitted, as I cant believe the car was made with no glue on the glass, only on the moulding. My door seals are worn, but are still water tight and I have cleaned & sealed the firewall/bulkhead. Where the A pillar trim screws screw into the A pillar itself there seems to be a foam piece inside that blocks the water and so drips out of the screw hole. I have also removed the roof rails, but the way they are mounted is a good design so i have just cleaned the threaded areas and sealed. I am going to have to take the screen out & rebond it just to satisfy myself its in correctly, just thought I ought to check to see if anyone could confirm my suspicions
