That would not be the correct picture.....that looks like a GM unit.....let me do some digging and I will see if I can find some info for you.

This is acctualy the one you need.
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Temperature-Switch-Sender-BWD_18970646-P_425_R|GRPSESWAMS_547248555___ ![]() Its located tward the rear of the head right next to the valve cover on the drivers side.....be VERY careful when installing the new one as they are easy to break. Also, I ended up grinding a socket down to make a thin walled on to use to put the new sensor in....a regular socket would not make it beside the valve cover. The one you have found is the sensor that reads back to the computer, and tells the fan when to come on, the one above ONLY feeds the gauge. |

Seems strange considering that the Borg Warner catalog shows the same sensor up till 1997 when the cluster changed to idiot lights.

1995 and older used two completely different temperature probes. one is dedicated for the engine computer, and is located in the thermostat housing. the other is dedicated for the gauge/light, and is located at the back of the head.
1996 is the year that all of the cars switched to OBDII. As part of the implementation, Jeep eliminated the dedicated sender for the temperature gauge and began reusing the ECM temperature sensor. The 1996-1999 4.0 heads do not even have a hole for the temperature gauge/light sender The OP has a 1996. Your link is for a 1995 temperature gauge. |

I'm not going to waste my time arguing, and I have no personal experience on an OBD II Cherokee, besides a 00 model.
All I am saying is that the factory service catalog and the Borg Warner catalog both list the break year as 97 not 96 |

OP"s link says it's for a 96 could be made during year change . He needs to look a his head near the fire wall on driver side and see if he has this sencor on his head.
Thats the way to be sure !!! Brizzle
