Will an AW4 from a 90 work in a 97?

Not sure if it will work but I can get the tranny and the tranny control computer with harness out of a 90 for $75 I needs to work in a 97 sport with 4.0

Probably not. Your trying to put an OBD-I trans into an OBD-II vehicle.

For a few dollars more you can get the correct trans so the swap would be a bolt on. Try www.Car-Part.com. The junkyards are full to the fences with Cash 4 Clunkers, so finding your trans will be easy.
