Why do my brakes do this?
When I boot up the beast in the morn the brakes don't work so hot. They don't grab until the pedal is halfway down. After a minute or two they are fine. Ideas? Thoughts?

Sounds like something to do with the booster... check the vaccuum line to it, and the bushing that holds the vaccuum line to the booster. I'm not sure the procedure to check the booster itself.

Air in the lines can also cause some funny things to happen, but I think it would cause the pedal to grab then slip.
When was the last time you had the brakes done?

New brakes in the rear last year. Never had this problem before the lift. Blame it on the lift right? I think I'll try bleeding them.

Well everything is always the lifts fault
Did you have to extend the brake lines?

I've never heard of air in the system going away after a few minutes of operation. If there's air in there it'll stay in there until the system is blead. You can tell if there's air in the lines by pumping up the pedal while the jeep is running - if it gets stiffer, there's air in there and you're compressing it. But I have a feeling there's no air in there otherwise the problem wouldn't remedy itself after a few minutes.

My bad, that's what I thought he meant by grabbing halfway down then being "ok" (I read it as stiffening up) after a minute or two ..... guess my brain is deep fried today

Hanes or Chilton detail a Booster test sequence that you do with the engine on and then off to see if it is working properly.

Just for giggles, pull your rear brake drums and see if your axle seals are leaking oil onto the shoes and drum. After using them a bit, they dry off and work better. Your applying more pedel at first to overcome the "well lubed" shoes.
