Who hates Rust?

Have a question if anyone has used a product that slows down rusting. I found this booklet at my local 4X4 store about a product called Counter Act. It is a Electostatic Corrosion Control device. They have a web site www.counteractrust.com

I talked to a co-worker and he said that the product or IDea is not new and that it works. Just want to see if any one uses it and what their thoughts are on it.

Why I want this is I live where it rains alot and my Jeep is outside.

Never used that product and don't know much about that kind of stuff. However there are some simple things I do to prevent rust on my jeep. If you have any deep scratches on your jeep body, applying a little car wax to it will help prevent moisture from rusting that area. WD40 helps prevent rusting on exposed springs and other simple parts. Also, overtime if your hood gets harder to "pop" open, applying a little WD40 to the latch and springs will make it alot easier to open the hood. Also, simple maintenance, such as keeping your moving parts lubricated with the proper grease will help prevent rusting of those exposed parts.

Dont realy have rust issues yet. The product prevents rust. It uses Electrostatic to prevent rust from forming. you should read up on it. But thx for asking. just wanted to see if anyone has ever used such a device.

in college chemistry books they tell how those things work, some can work by putting a "sacrificial piece of metal on it somewhere and that piece will rust before the rest of it, can't remember exactly why it works that way

might be worth trying, in order to keep something like this from happening http://home.earthlink.net/~scs748_2/qpanel1.JPG

it is mine, the previous owner had bondo'd it up, and I was whacking the lip of the fender aftertrimming and it cracked all the way along it, that pic shows what came off after just pulling on it with my hands(minus the one straight cut), I ended up cutting alot more out and welded in some new metal with a lip on it to make it stronger then stock

Sacrificial Anodes

Those of use who have ever owned boats that are used in salt water are quite accustomed to the principle of a sacfricial anode.
The idea is that when two different metals are in contact with each other then a reaction occurs that causes rust. Usually there is moisture and/or salt in the equation.

A sacrificial anode is a piece of metal (on outboards is is generally a small fin used for directional stability) that is made of an alloy that is weaker than the surrounding metals, this causes it to corrode instead of the more expensive parts.

There you are. Hope this simple explanation helps.

Im sure you guys have heard of Durabak??? It is a non slip lining , or bedliner , like rhino lining but better. Check out this site, www.nonslipcoating.com . There is an XJ covered with this stuff. You cant scratch it, its impervious to salt, rust, and UV , just about everything. If done correctly can look very good, and you would never have to wash or wax it. And if you cover your chassis in it, you would never have to worry about salt or rust on that again. Plus it comes in a smooth or texture finish. And in many colors. Damn sounds like Im a sales rep for these people, I swear I am not. Im pondering getting some for undernieth my XJ, and maybe more. Just sounds like a great product.
