who has amped front speakers or components?

I am finally getting my HO alternator working and just picked up a new deck, as my old one is starting to overheat. Does anyone have pics of front components and tweeter locations? I want it to be off-road friendly although I probably will be staying away from river crossings. Just curious what amp and front speakers people are running.

I just run those off of the deck. I can't find a good place to put an amp, where it would be out of harm's way. You really don't need the HO alternator to run an amp and some speakers though.

^^ I had mine in the same place. Rockford Fosgate Fanatic P component system, and a Rockford Type RF amplifier on the back of the rear seat.

I thought about that, but I haul crap with mine and need to fold the seat down a lot. I'd just end up beating the amp to hell. I had actually thought about mounting it on the headliner too, but never got around to trying it out.

Heh, I thought about mounting it on the headliner too, but I have the 97+ headliner now, and theres speaker pods right where i'd need to put it. My new idea though, is to build a box out of MDF, and cover it with some diamond plate for looks, and put it on the back of the rear seat, with the amp(s) inside. That way I can throw stuff in the back without having to worry about damaging anything.

that's why I have a wooden roof rack to haul crap, lol. I like the looks of the setup above, however I have power windows and locks, so not much of an option. the HO alternator was mainly because I had a 200 amp HO alternator made for my Integra GSR, then I sold the car and the alternator was never installed so I returned it and for $50 he made me one for the jeep (180 amp). I was going to put my four 12's in, but then decided two is enough (I have 7 subs sitting in my garage). will still be useful when the 12 aux lights are installed as well as winch

You could always put the tweeters next to the woofers in the bottom if you have power windows, or in the factory location, or maybe on the a-pillars.

are those 6.5"? how were to fit (I know that 84-96 xj's have a 5.25" hole)? I think the A pillar is a pretty decent idea. thing is I have a set of Kenwood eXcelon 6.5" components that I had in my Integra, so maybe I can reuse those. Very good speakers

Depending on how big the magnet is, you can get it to fit with a spacer of some sort, or you can cut the hole to be a little bigger.

the 97-01's have a 5.25" front hole as well, its not just the older models.

most 6.5" speakers will bolt right in tho, provided the magnet doesnt sit to deep as to obstruct window operation.

i got some cheapie pioneers (160w two ways) that screwed right in sound much better than the 5.25"s.

I think I will go with my old crap. screw buying new stuff. I was going to reinstall the system in my 300zx, but could be a while before she's on the road and I would rather buy the new stuff for the Z. the amp is decent. old school kenwood excelon 2 channel that delivers 125x2 (true RMS), not BS amp rating at 14.4v, 90x2 at 12v. my project tomorrow is getting my secondary battery installed as well as other preparations.

97+ XJ's have larger openings and are able to fit 6.5's. I fit the 6.5's into a 96- XJ by doing a lot of sheet metal modification and wouldn't recommend it.

Mine are Polk DX2 Euro 6s, which measure almost 7 across the surround. It took a Sawzall to get them in there. They have a mounting depth a little over 2 inches, and there is plenty of room for them that way.
