where is my coolant temp sensor??
well it's a 1998, and after thorough searching, everyone says it's on the drivers side of the engine almost all the way back there. but in my case i just have a flat spot there. if you don't beleive me i'll take a pic to prove it.
anyway, it's a 1998 engine so where is my temp sending unit? thanks in advance

Guage probably operates off the sensor in the thermostat housing if there's not a sensor in the back of the cylinder head.

Mine was on the drivers side back corner ust behind the valve cover, with a purple wire plugged into it.

anyway, the trick is it's a 1991 with the engine outta a 1998. could i just wire my guage to the sending unit on the t-stat housing ( the one that operates the electric fan) would this be a reliable reading/work?

or how about taking the t-stat housing off and drilling and tapping a hole to accept the stock 1-wire sending unit

Depends on how much work you want to do. If it were me I would drill and tap the cylinder head on the flat spot where the older units had the sending unit for the guage. It's a standard pipe thread and iron is easy to tap. Of course you would want to flush your cooling systen afterwards to get out andy metal chips
