Whats behind the upper firewall?

I need to mount something inside the engine compartment.
In the marked areas of the attached picture, is there anything that might get in the way of a drill bit, or the screws that will be used for mounting?
If I remove the panel between the hood and windshield, will I have access to this area?

(Dang, I wanted the pic to appear HERE!)

TIA

Steve

The windshield wiper motor and wire harness are in there. Just remove the grille at the base of the windshield and look inside.

mine has a guard there making it very hard to get access to that spot from above, i was trying to trace my vac lines there but gave up because it would involve taking the entire dash apart.
