What transfer case do you have?

Can we sticky this? I want to make it easy for someone to find their transfer case, should they ask, because the topic comes up every day.

Furthermore, none of this text-based answering, here, we're going to use pictures.

NP231

post up a CLEAR picture of each different transfer case shifter (I know there is only one other stock one, but hey, why not include the aftermarket/swapped ones?), and I'll post them in an edit to this post, so they are all together.

NP242

How about this...get your *** under the Jeep and look at the model number that's stamped on the back of the Tcase? That'll tell you if you're unsure.

wtf? let me say: THIS IS NOT FOR ME. I know what I have, an NP231-J. Everyone seems to ask, and since pictures are better than text, I was HOPING someone would step up and add theirs.

Way to be party-poopers, guys....

Transfer Cases

The transfer cases used are all chain driven with aluminum housings. NP stands for "New Process" which is the brand, if you will. The newer ones are NV instead which stands for "New Venture". It is the same transfer case just a different name.

NP207 - "Command-Trac" part-time only - 2.61:1 ratio low range - used 84-87
NP231 - "Command-Trac" part-time only - 2.72:1 ratio low range - shift pattern 2H - 4H - N - 4L - used 87-01

NP228/NP229 - "Selec-Trac" - 4Hi(full-time) - N - 4Lo (part-time) - used 84-87
NP242 - "Selec-Trac" part-time OR full-time - 2.72:1 ratio low range - shift pattern 2wd - 4part-time - 4full-time - N - 4LO - used 87-01
If people would look in the stickies we wouldn't need pictures. If you can't follow the logic in the sticky about transfer cases, then good luck owning a jeep.

If people actually read the Sticky's and used the Search button then we wouldn't have to answer the same questions day in and day out

I don't see the problem in trying to make a simple task even easier. Props to the starter of the thread, if I had the picture thats needed I would post it up.

Thats different, thats asking for pictures that are already in the stickies.

This is just making things simpler, like posting pictures of different types of axels.

No biggy though, not everyone can agree.

Now posting pics of axles would definetly help. I can understand the pics of shift patterns if the person has never owned a 4x4 and doesn't know what they are looking for. Sorry, just some peoples kids get on my nerves, lol.
