i have a 1999 jeep cherokee sport and i was wondering what transfer case i have, the stock one blew up and i had it replaced with no real modifications so its probably the same one, but what visible features stick out that i can identify? thanks!

The 231 t-case has 2hi,4hi,N,4lo. The 242 t-case has 2hi,4hiparttime, 4hi fulltime,N4lo. The front will be a dana 30 high pinion, and the rear will be either the dana 35 or the chrysler 8.25.

The should be a round red and silver ID tag on the TC. Post pics of you rear axle and TC face. front is D30 unless Jeep is modified.

The 8.25 is a lot stronger.

^ A LOT stronger compared to the 35. the 35 will have a round bottom on the pumpkin. where as the 8.25 will have a flat lip on the bottom. plus im sure if you have abs then u have the 35

This is the dana 35, notice it has no housing showing under the diff. cover and the cover is completely oval. This is the 8.25, notice the flat section of housing underneath the diff. cover and the raised lip around the cover.
