what temperature should my jeep be running at??

i own a 1994 jeep cherokee 2.5L manual.

i recently hooked up my water temperature sending unit and now my temperature gauge works.. it normally runs at 220-230degrees... is that normal??

i know in my other car thats HOT.. but someone told me that jeeps tend to run hot.. so i was just wondering how normal it is

My '88 4 Ltr. runs about 220*, all year long, doesn't matter what weather or load I put on it....changed to the open-style system, didn't make much of a diff, except got rid of that POS pressure bottle. Most guys I talk to say their rigs run about 210*....

I think mine is broken.

It used to run really hot, around 210.

Now it hardly ever gets that hot unless I'm sitting in heat/traffic.

yeah, even when driving down the highway, it runs at 190 ish, should be maybe 5 degrees better than that even when I put the new radiator on tomorrow. We'll see.

I would say thats a "Hot" normal operating temp. If you're climbing or towing then maybe thats not bad.
I just sold my 94 w/a 2.5l and it would run at 190 or so tops.
hope this helps.

Mine runs at 180. I have a 180 thermostat though. When i am in traffic it creeps up to 200, but never over that.
