What size allen for oil filter L adapter

I went to replace the o-rings on my oil filter L adapter, bought the 60 torx that was described in the madx page and when I went to do the job, I noticed that it wasn't a torx head at all, but a very large allen/hex key. Any ideas what size? all I know is its big and far larger than anything I have in my tool box.

for the record, the '94 L6 has a 14mm allen bolt on the oil filter adapter. I found out by process of elimination. Got one at NAPA for about $7.00. Only problem is that you'l need to grind about 1/4 to 1/2 inch off it to get it into the spot you have to. Other than that, no problems with drips anymore.

true that

i just got my 97 and i havent even changed te oil yet but i already noticed it will be a pain in the ***, all that oil leaking out of the filter all over the control arm... and how are u supposed to fill the filter with oil and then put the filter on without spilling it. so anyway i can see that one of those L things would be nice. where can i get it and how much

the L that I'm talking about is the standard L adapter that is on every one of the 4.0's that I've seen and probably yours too. What I think you might be looking for is an oil filter relocation kit.

It is a pain in the *** to remove the filter without dripping oil everywhere. Once I get the filter loose, I use a quart size ziplock bag to remove it. once unscrewed, seal the bag and you make much less of a mess. As far as pre-filling the filter, I've never done that on any vehicle I've ever owned, so don't see it as much of an issue with this one. The filter will fill up very quickly once the engine starts. I have had trouble with penzoil filters that some of the mobile express lubes use. It appears that their oil pressure relief valves either don't work, or have a much higher psi release point than some of the others.

this oil change is a piece of cake compared to my mazda miata. picture this, reaching in between the tubes of your header after you've warmed the engine up to unscrew the filter. Yep, plenty of burned forearms on that one. That vehicle definitely could use the filter relocaton kit.
