What's really in this Cherokee - help please

Recently acquired 2001 jeep Cherokee.
No VIN in the ECU
Keyless entry not working
Looks like motor was replaced
Automatic transmission

How to know what engine, tranny, and other options are on this vehicle without having the history.

Does the maybe swapped engine have a distributor or the coil rail?

What about the emissions, does it have pre-cats under the hood?

Chrysler/Jeep used to decode the VIN and provide the Build Sheet with a complete breakdown of installed options, IDK if they still do that. AFIK, no XJ Cherokee ECU has an embedded VIN. As already noted, the 2001 4.0L will have a coil on plug ignition rail, and 2 pre-catalytic converters. The only auto trans option for the 4.0L engine is the AW-4.

A recent Gallup public opinion poll shows the NRA, at 58% approval, has a higher approval rating than either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.
