What differential do I have?

I think it's a Dana 35 but I want to be certain before I buy a diff cover. Attached is a picture of it:

It's a 99 XJ, does not include full-time 4WD. Just 2WD, N, 4H, 4L

Thanks.

the 8.25 looks too circular. i think its the dana 35. look at the part that protrudes in the bottom left of the d35. you don't see that with the 8.25

That is a Dana 35. What makes you think it is a C8.25? If you say rubber plug, please be aware that lots of Dana 35's have rubber plugs.

The OP's(Mikej1224) axle is a Dana 35, see the dana logo?

lonewolf41191's photo is of a Chrysler 8.25. Note the flat part of the diff that sticks out pasted the cover, easiest way to tell the difference.

Front axles are Dana 30's. No such thing as a Dana 35 front axle in a Jeep.

One thing I've noticed is the C8.25 has a bead roll around the outside edge
of the dif cover, where as the dana 35 cover is just flat all the way to the edge. Can't really tell in the OP pics.

Wrong forum bub. Ask your q's in TJ Tech. For the most part, the majority of Jeep front axles are Dana 30's. A Dana 35 is a rear axle only.

I am relatively sure that in the last 2 years since the OP posted, he has been able to figure out his rear axle type.

The Chrysler 8.25 has a flat lip on the bottom, and extra lumps on the topside over the pinion yoke. The D35 does not.

Rubber plugs, ABS, and/or the diff cover are not that relevant to the identification.
