I need to replace the rear wheel bearings on the '98 Cherokee Sport 4 ltr auto 4wd, just a plain Jane, no mods. Got a nasty grinding noise when I turn corners and is noisy at 25-55 mph. When I replaced the gear oil the other month the tag is completely rusted off. gone/kaput. Looking for bearings online it looks like there are three different pumpkins out there. I think I have the Chrysler but not sure. How can I verify? Does the VIN give any clue. If not what can I look for. After watching some youtube bearing replacements it looks like a pretty straight forward job. Open the pumpkin, remove the bolt, pull the pin, c clip and pull the axle. Reef out the race and pound in the new. Right??
