On the thread where it says all the cherokee facts it says "curb weight 4wd = 3,057 lbs - 3,386 lbs" but today on my door it said gross vehicle weight something like ... 4900 lbs. Does anyone know what a 4wd auto xj weights b/c if it actually weighs 5000 then that would suck... alot

the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum loaded weight rated for the Jeep. as in, the max it should weight when packed full of crap.

Stock weights are between 2900 and 3,200 lbs IIRC. GVWR is the maximum the vehicle can handle loaded + vehicle weight.
XJ's are actually very light vehicles and I hopefully will one day make a street sleeper LS1/M6 combo.

Curb (kerb) weight is the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary operating consumables (such as motor oil and coolant), a full tank of fuel and not loaded with either passengers or cargo.[1]

I had mine weighed on some commercial scales a couple years ago. I was leaving on a 2 week trip to Moab and was loaded down with lots of stuff, plus me (180lbs) and my dog (120lbs). She weighed 3,985lbs. I'm guessing she weighs under 3400 lbs empty.
Weight was one of the issues that convinced me to buy an XJ. I do a lot of snow-wheeling and wanted a light rig that could carry lots of junk.

i call BS...
i looked at my sticker yesterday and it says curb wt: 4900lbs
i have a 94 xj sport. that's 4wd and no power options like windows or locks, and no keyless...just the necessities to off-road.
curb is with no gas or near the E, and regular fluids needed to run...tranny, engine, diff fluids, coolant and all that jazz...also, washer fluid.

I'd imagine my XJ weighs a little under 1300 lbs.
