Upper quarter panel guards
I posted some time ago looking for these and was shown a link to someone who made them:
http://www.detoursusa.com/xjboomerangs.php Not being a fan of diamond plate on my XJ, I decided to make my own to match the THOR lower quarter panel guards. And here's how they turned out: ![]() ![]() ![]() They are made out of 3/16ths steel plate. They are flared at the back because without an extra 3/16th strip on the D-pillars the back door wouldn't open or close. I created a template using clear plastic sheeting taped to the side of the XJ, then onto cardboard and then onto the steel. I had a friend cut them out with a plasma cutter and then mounted using nutserts (like rivets but are threaded on the inside) on the D-pillar and nuts/bolts along the quarter panel with a 1/8th strip of metal on the inside to spread any load out when it gets abused (tough to see in a picture). I thought I would share this in case anyone wanted to do the same. I was getting tired of hitting the D-pillar and hatch on rocks. I know it doesn't look pretty but they were designed for function.

That's cool too, but my D pillar and hatch door were getting wrecked so figured the steel plate would be better. I may have to copy that rear stinger and bumper though.

Any thoughts about putting in a cross bar between the top of the hatch end and the bottom of the door end of your L plate to protect the window?
Edit: And nice job! |

Looks good and looks like it would do the job, but I think the same thing could be accomplished with a piece of tube running the length of the jeep along the drip rail. It would pretty much protect the window and the THOR guard would protect the rest. Just food for thought.

Just curious, has anyone (LEO) given you a hard time for the side markers being covered? I know you can see them from the back, but not the sides. Just curious.
