Upgraded harness, now high beam and low beam are reversed

I installed a upgraded headlight wiring harness but now there are a few issues. When first pulling the headlight switch on it is just low beams like it should be. When I use the stalk to put on highs that is ok too. But then hitting the high beam stalk again turns the low beam off and leaves the highs on. So when the blue light for high beams is on, it actually means my low beams are off. I can turn my low beams back on by hitting the stalk again, but the highs stay on the whole time. Only way to turn off highs is to push in headlight switch to turn everything off and start the process again. The wiring is not mixed up, theres nothing to mess with, it just plugs into the existing headlight bulb plug and wires to the battery. So it must be the relays? They are cheapy no-name relays so maybe I should get some Boschs or similar? Would that be the solution to this problem?

Is there anything abnormal about that?

The low beams should always be on whenever the headlights are on. Switching to high beam illuminates the high beam fillament while leaving the low beam on.

I would double check the wiring again. Draw the schematic on paper and trace out the electrical flow with different a colored highligh marker for each function. It sounds like when switching back to low beam there is some kind of backfeed from the low beam circuit to the high beam relay coil keeping it energised and the only way to release it is to kill all power. Similar to a pushbutton motor starter relay.

Does that mean that both the low and high beam circuits are closed simultaneously?
