update on death wobble/shake at 55 to 60

I modified my drag link where it connects to the axle, what a PIA. a few hours and 2 cobalt bits later the entire scope of the shake has been changed. Still there but to a much lesser degree. i will replace the drag link because the other end has some play. Every one of our xj's should get the mounting bolt and bushing mod done, my front end feels so much tighter. Use a 7/16x3" bolt and drill out the bushing to accomadate, you will be surprised at the results.

Do you have any Pics of this Mod. I know the front end pretty good but cannot picture a draglink

Usually if you have a vibration/shimmy at a certain speed and you can drive through it, it tends to be a balance problem. Death Wobble usually starts when hitting a bump or a uneven portion in the road and slowing down is one of the only things to stop/minimalize it. A vibration/shimmy accures at a certain speed often when running larger tires. Death Wobble is usually caused by worn/loose components in your suspension system or improper geometry when setting up a suspension system. Such as to much lift on a short arm lift. If the arms have such a downward angle because of to much lift (bigger coil springs than recommended or the addition of coil spacers) than there is no forward support on the front axle causing a shimmy. Another cause is not enough caster angle. This may not cause death wobble so much as having a hard time keeping your vehicle to go straight down the road. This is just a little information hoping to help you. You might want to take a look out the window at the speed you have posted to see if the tires start to shimmy at 55 and go away at 60. I think alot of time the term Death Wobble is misused.

my mistakei meant track bar. death wobble, shimmy, shake=strg wheel goes nuts at certain speed, around 55 is the common area. cetain things like going up hill and turning thru a curve will set it off. any of us that have this issue know exactly what i mean. all the basic stuff has been done, balance, rotation, ck for bent wheels. i love my jeeps but this is definately a jeep thing. my 01 is just starting to shake in the same zone. both are stock, one is up country. i am going to do upper control arm bushings, i need to make the special tools or fork out the bucks from miller tools to get the factory stuff, i am open to suggestions on the tooling to do the job. burning, hack sawing and pounding are not an option for me.
