Trucks! Stroker build
Anyone else catch the Horesepower TV Truck! 4.6 Liter Stroker build? It's interesting how they solved the compression ratio problem by taking material from the head. The removed 3 cc worth of material from each cylinder and lowered the CR from 9.6 to 9.3.
I just completed a Stroker build, although I chose 258 crank 242 rods and KB944 pistons. They used 258 crank and rods and stock 242 pistons.

Stock pistons would net you what, 4.2L? IIRC, you get 4.6 @ .30 over, no? Are those the new KB pistons that you use with the 4.0 rods?

Using stock 4.0 pistons, and a 4.2 crank will get you a 4.5L, .030 gets you 4.6L, .060 gets you 4.7L. and yes the Keith Black pistons are for use with the 4.0 rods.

what a 9.6 ratio would just need Midgrade... Personally I would have kept the higher Compression Ratio, your building a stroker for power, at about a 10 to 15 cents more per gallon your going to see less then $3 more per tank fill. I think I could by one less Mountain Due during the week to make up the little extra power the higher compression ratio would have given.
Interesting they did not get a 97+ Air intake to mate up to the new head, using the newer intake would have resulted overall flow along with not having to grind the intake down like they did. They could have at least showed a TB bore, Thats a $0 mod. Would like to see what they dino it at, I have been looking at doing the 4.6L stroker next summer, and wondered what kind of real world gains may be seen from it.

Maybe Ryan will chime in on this thread. His screen name is "RStrucks". He was on here quite a bit when they did the last XJ build.
We'll give them some pointers on how to do it right!

You will want to run 91+ octane fuel. generally booting a motor only has a 1-2 mpg effect. With it being a jeep a lot of people see that drop when you add larger tires and a roof rack then I dont think it would be that big of a change in $$ but its going to run well over a $3K for a do it your self turbo and then over $5K for a "kit" for the 4.0L (the strait six is not an easy motor to boost)
If you need more power then then a stroked 4.6L then you are going to want to do a V8 Small Block Conv. in the end will cost you less.

Also surprised they put 2 grand into the engine then put the stock exhaust manifold back on it. |

how much Horsepower and torque ( estimated ) do you think i can get out of the motor boring it out to a 4.6L and twin turbo ( probably from a skyline motor because of the similar size ) or a supercharger .? can anybody send me some links on stroker kits? im just starting to research about this as it is my plan to do these modifications in about a year when im in college

to get the 4.7 you have to punch out the cylinders .060". dedpending on how much boost you decide to put to it you may need to worry about about cylinder cracking. i actually want to destroke/leave it stock displacement and completely balance a 4.0L, go with a full roller valvetrain, titanium SBC valves, springs, and retainers, forged SBM rods, forged Keith Black pistons and a 40mm turbo.
