Trimming a 4door xj

Getting ready for NW Fest here in Washignton. Having some sued 33x12.5r16 Bogger SSRs sent for really cheap to replace the 235/75/R15 bald stree tires ive been using. So i know Im going to need a decent amount of trimming to fit them under there with only my 3in lift. the front I get. its the back that im having issues wraping my head around. The bottom of the door is RIGHT there. Where is the actual trimming done to help clear those wheels? People do it all the time. I just cant visualize it. Any help would be great =) going to do this this weekend =) Thanks!!

Ed

you have nothing to worry about. here is my trim job for 37's

if you dont feel like trimming anymore just add a little bumpstop. they will keep your tires out of there while helping your springs (and shocks) last longer

I like the cut and fold method. Looks like much neater results. What do you cut with, a hacksaw?

I must not have the right blades for my angle grinder, because all it ever does is burn and bubble the paint (and cut the metal). For me, the jigsaw is far easier to control and get a nice smooth curved cut with (front fenders), and no burnt paint. Less sparks too, and not quite as noisy. Whatever works best for you though. (jigsaws have their disadvantages for sure though).

I like the idea of a hacksaw, because you can go slower and have less chance of messing up. I prefer hand tools in general. I like to use a hand crank drill for wood. When I was looking for a new one at Home Depot, the guy looked at me like I was crazy.

Edit: I'm talking about cut and fold. Hacking an actual cutout would be hard

Man....7 years ago already, I remember when you first got your XJ and when you originally did that write up. Time flies.....and neither of my XJs are even close to being done...LOL

This guy used a hacksaw to trim a Land Rover. Maybe it's just easier because they are aluminum-bodied?

If you are actually triming, dont go past the welds or the panels will come apart.
