Transmission seal leak

I'm buying a XJ and found one on craigslist that I might be interested in further investigating. Here's a link.

The mileage is 215k which is high, but looks pretty well maintained. He says "There is a Transmission fluid leak from a worn seal in the differential. You can drive around, but have to keep up with the leak by adding transmission fluid every couple of days. It's an easy and relatively cheap fix."

Is he being honest? I've googled everywhere and can't really verify that. It doesn't seem like a common issue with XJs that I know of (I've been doing my research for the last few months). Any insight is appreciated!

I always wonder.. If its a cheap and easy fix, why didn't they fix it?

Mine is leaking slightly. Research into the topic sugguests the hardest part is dealing with the dip stick tube. Others may be able to elaborate on this.
